What brought me to Kung Fu initially is I was watching some random YouTube videos with my daughter;

I think she was six-years-old at the time, and she’s nine now. We were watching this kid, probably about her same age, doing some forms; she was doing a form with a sword, and she was on America’s Got Talent or Britain’s Got Talent or one of those talent shows. It was just amazing, and [phonetic][00:00:31] Ren – my daughter, her name is Ren – says, “I want to do that,” and I kind of just looked at her and was like, “Okay. I can’t discourage this, so let’s give it a try and see what we come up with,” and so I gave you a call and we got started.

She started first, actually. About three months into it, I was just sitting here on the bench watching, and a lot of times I would see her struggling with something and I was like, “This really doesn’t look that difficult. Why is she having so much trouble?” I gave it a try myself, and I was just mind-blown. It is a lot of work; I’m not going to lie to you. It is a lot of work; but the more work you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it. Two-and-a-half, three years later, here I am still going at it.

As far as changes for my daughter, she seems to be more confident. I know she’s a little bit stronger than she was before she started, and she’s just a really great kid. I know she takes the lessons that we learn here out with her; because when I talk to her teachers that are in conferences, they tell us that she’s the most respectful kid in class, and that kind of thing. Yes, she’s come along great.

How did you benefit from our kung fu and martial arts classes near Omaha in Bellevue? How did this impact your body, your mind, your spirit?

As far as mind and spirit, I’m a lot more relaxed than I ever was. I can take something difficult and not have a lot of stress over it; whether it’s something happening at work or with my family, something like that, I feel like I’m better equipped to deal with it.

As far as health goes, I have lost a lot of weight. When I went to my doctor only the first year after I started, he took my vitals and all that, and I asked him, “How does it compare with last year?” and he looks back at me and says, “What have you been doing?” [laughs] Just like that.

Who would you recommend martial arts for?

Pretty much anybody, really.

I would recommend martial arts for pretty much anybody who wants to improve themselves either physically or mentally, and anybody who wants to be able to relate to other people better and more easily. I really believe that pretty much anybody can benefit from martial arts.
